Preparing for Haiti...

I am spending most of my free time to get ready for a SG Foundation trip to Haiti. March 13 to 21. Purchased my tickets yesterday... so I guess it is a go. Our goal when we travel is to seek out the best ngo's that are the most effective in helping the poorest of the poor. Often it is so difficult to do this. I have found those individuals with an entrepreneurial "business" spirit are often the most effective. I really like this article...

Last year when I was in Nicaragua on a similar SG trip.... I had one of those "aha" moments with Rob Bell from El Porvenir. Rob helped me understand that an effective approach to development must include 3 essential elements:

1. Health 2. Education 3. Economic Development

I can get my mind around this. This helped me look at development and evaluating the work of ngo's in a new light.
